Drop Electric

Washington, DC electro-pop outfit Electric Drop certainly don’t hold anything back.  Their percussive blasts of synth-riddled dream-pop rhythms and continually shifting musical perspective tend to keep listeners on the edge of their seats, in constant expectation of what’s waiting just around the corner of the next chorus.  The band’s songs are in an amorphous state of flux, where singer Kristina Reznikov’s expressive voice acts as our guide through these vibrant, technicolor worlds.  But the connection between the real world and the sonic landscapes painted so vividly by the band is tenuous at best, and eventually, it becomes difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins.  We’ll have even more reason to question our reality when their latest record, Waking Up To The Fire, is released on October 22nd via Lefse Records.

On their latest single, the churning electronic maelstrom “Higgs Boson,” they leave any trace of restraint at the studio door and unleash a barrage of dark synth melodies, shuffling percussion, and Reznikov’s half-submerged vocals.  The song pulses with a determined artificial life — where an oscillating and sinister rhythmic drone is laid atop vocals that seem drawn from 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.  The band has us watching stars collide from the depths of the ocean and seems fit to offer us an appropriate soundtrack to the celestial upheaval.  Much like the elementary particle that it’s named after, “Higgs Boson” itself is evidence of an act of pure creation, offering us a brief glimpse into the inner workings of a band who seem quite comfortable casting substantial shadows across the sky.

Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the latest track, “Higgs Boson,” from Drop Electric’s upcoming album, Waking Up To The Fire.
