Melbourne-based indie pop five-piece Kite Club are set to release their latest album, Fresh Air For Humans, sometime later this year. Â But until then, the band has released their newest single, “Jupiter Smiling,” from the album, and it has mid-90’s pop written all over it. Â But in this context, that’s not such a bad thing. Â While you may hear echoes of The Lemonheads and, dare I say, Gin Blossoms (and those are far from negative associations, trust me), not to mention a touch of late 80’s dream pop, Kite Club make this melodic pop sound work for them in nostalgic ways while still maintaining a sense of their own musical identity. Chiming guitars, layered harmonies, and an ear-hooked melody that climbs casually upward through the instruments, all point to the song’s ability to fashion something unique and memorable out of familiar strands of rhythm and tone. Â Listen to “Jupiter Smiling” below.
