Listen: Firehorse – “Good”

Firehorse - Pills From Strangers

The merger of keyboard swirls, insistent percussion, and Firehorse singer Leah Siegel’s impassioned vocals put the latest single from the band firmly in the aesthetic of revisionist indie rock.  What stands out especially on “Good” is how meticulously each part is pressed together to form something refreshingly unique–something redolent of its influences but never chained down by them. Alternating between conversational phrasing and more intense anthemic wails, Siegel conveys the curiously hesitant refrain of “never was good girl” with the abandon of singers like Karen O or Kathleen Hanna–though there is a slightly more optimistic bent to the track that sets Firehorse apart from their indie brethren.

Firehorse’s upcoming mini-LP Pills From Strangers is due out June 25th.
