Caterpillars - The Other Side

Dallas indie rock outfit Caterpillars are set to self-release their debut LP, The Other Side, on September 24th.  Brought together by a common affection for melodic indie rock and the possibilities of digital manipulation, they coax dense rhythms and classic rock harmonies from leagues of arpeggiated guitars, insistent bass lines, subtle synth flourishes, and a mix of acoustic and digital drums.  Working with producer/engineer Ed Rose (The Appleseed Cast, The Get Up Kids) — who also manned the boards for their eponymous debut EP — the band uses his primal indie rock instincts, along with a combination of their own multi-faceted approach to music, to create songs of constantly shifting dynamics and intricately woven rhythmic combativeness.  As easy as it is to shove indie rock bands into neat, little compartments, Caterpillars is a band which continually avoids such convenient categorization.

On The Other Side, the band wield brevity and bombast in equal measure, where subtle string arrangements, swooping synths, and chugging guitars take turns sharing the spotlight.  Classic alt-rock melodies and indie rock swagger cascade in anthemic waves over singer Christopher Robinson’s adrenalized vocals and intimate narratives of love, despair, and absolution.  More cathartic then sentimental, these songs trade on communal conscious experiences — these everyday events that we often take for granted or merely pass over because of the simple wonder of their existence.

Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the album stream of Caterpillars’ upcoming debut LP, The Other Side.
