Kaiser Chiefs announce new album The Future Is Medieval, allow listeners to create and sell it

It’s been near enough three years since we heard anything from Leeds based band Kaiser Chiefs who back in 2008 released their last album Off With Their Heads. After lots of touring, creating their own record label (Chewing Gum Records) and a brief hiatus, the band return with their new album The Future Is Medieval. Now, this is point where usually I would write the release date, tracklisting and point you to the album art below but it’s not as easy at that. You see Kaiser Chiefs have come up with an interesting spin on the album which allows listeners to choose the tracklist, make the artwork and then sell it for potential profit. Here’s the synopsis:

1. Select 10 songs out of 20 to make up your own album.
2. Design your album artwork
3. Pay £7.50 and download your creation

From this you get our own webpage to market and advertise your album. For each copy of your album that’s downloaded you get £1 back; so if you “sell” it a mere eight times you’ll have made a profit. It’s an interesting concept that put the listener in a curious position but it’s sure as hell going to make reviewing the album a hell of an awkward task.
