Such is life for Kanye West: a couple of months after releasing the considerably awesome, King Crimson-sampling “Power,” he must have listened to it again and said to himself, “you know, Yeezy, this song isn’t nearly as awesome as it could be. You should remedy this by changing the sample from ’21st Century Schizoid Man’ to ‘The Power’ by Snap! You should also call up Jay-Z, because he owes you big-time for agreeing to actually put your name next to that terrible ‘Hate’ song on Blueprint 3.”
The result: a remix that’s even better than the original. Jay sounds like he cares for the first time in God knows how long, and Kanye follows through on the boasts he made in his Ustream broadcast last week about comparing his work to the very distant past by dropping a little fine-arts knowledge: “I don’t stop until I see the end, my vision is clear, bitch/I’m on that Van Gogh, I don’t hear shit.” And then Swizz Beats drops in to speed up the entire thing, leading to a ridiculous double-time verse. The last time Jay-Z was featured on a Kanye album, his “Diamonds” remix replaced the original on Late Registration. With My Dark Twisted Fantasy due out in November, nobody would complain if history repeated itself.
