Johnny Marr splits from The Cribs to focus on solo material

The Cribs have been known as the band that features ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Now, with news breaking that Marr and the band have gone their separate ways, The Cribs will be known as… well, we are not sure.

As reported by NME, Marr stated that “I’m working on new solo songs. I’ll be putting out two records over the next year or so and doing more film soundtrack work,” while adding, “touring and recording with Ryan, Gary and Ross [Jarman] has been fantastic and [2009 Cribs album] Ignore The Ignorant is something I’m really proud of. We ended up doing much more than we originally set out to and I’ve made three good friends.”

Marr recently worked on the score for the film Inception and in the past has recorded and toured with Modest Mouse, so the man knows how to keep busy. He is also apparently writing his autobiography, while The Cribs have some summer festival dates lined-up and plan to record a fifth album in the fall.

No word on any Smiths reunion.
