DMX practically makes Gucci Mane look responsible and well-disciplined. Once upon a time, he was undisputed as one of hip hop’s leading voices, but the shift of focus away from gangsta rap and, moreover, DMX’s legal issues took a toll on his career. It’s hard to count the number of comebacks he’s begun, only to be cut short by yet another arrest.
This year, however, X seems truly ready to return to the rap world, performing at the BET Awards late last year, and so on. His new LP, Undisputed, should drop sometime this year, currently slated for June 26th, but don’t be surprised if it’s pushed back to allow for greater hype build up.
In the meantime, DMX is reaching out to his fans directly with a free EP, released just now. The FreEP features 11 tracks, 5 of them interludes (one from Lil Wayne). Hey, it’s free music. Head over to LiveMixtapes for the download, or listen below.

As The Walkmen grow ever closer to the May 29th release of their latest LP, Heaven, tracks have appeared with regularity. Here’s the B-side to their single “Heaven”, titled “The House That You Made”. Of all critical darlings, The Walkmen may well have the most consistent pace, make sure you support them in two weeks time, and listen to “Heaven” here, if you haven’t heard it.

Hot off of Rick Ross’ twitter, check out his latest single from God Forgives, I Don’t, “Touch’N You”, which is said to play the role of the project’s lead single, now that the release has endured a considerable period of pushbacks. Not that this is persay bad news, any music fan will be happy to see the painful, Nicki Minaj hooked, “You the Boss” to get tossed out. This track features a chorus from someone more credited to provide one, Usher. Download the track and enjoy.

Cold Specks’ album I Predict A Graceful Expulsion has been slowly creeping up on listeners over the past while, and now we have the a video for one of the standout tracks “Winter Solstice” (via Rolling Stone). The video finds Al Spx wandering by a river – occasionally looking out across it in a thoughtful manner – before encountering a child. Check out the video below, and if it seeps into your head in a favorable manner, be sure to seek out the rest of the album.
Phil Elverum’s latest effort as Mount Eerie, Clear Moon, may not release for a little over a week, but you can listen to it over at NPR now. While Elverum’s recent interest in black metal is still apparent, he explained in a press release that krautrock legends Popol Vuh had also heavily influenced the album. If you enjoy it, look for Moon on May 22nd, and for a second Eerie effort of all new material, Ocean Roar, later this year.
For fans of R. Kelly at his more traditional, the first track (“Share My Love”) released from the legendary crooner’s approaching album, Write Me Back, was somewhat confusing. Not bad, just a strange direction for Kelly to have chosen, particularly following his closest foray into old school R&B in years, Love Letter. Not to mention that he’d assured his fans this album would be ‘the new 12 Play‘, at which point it was titled Black Panties, leading some to grumble over potential label tampering (insert Prince’s Black Album references here).
They should be more easily acclimated to this latest track, “Feelin’ Single”, which boasts a vibe more akin to Kelly’s preferred smooth dance hits. No precise date for the album as of yet, stay tuned.
Times are a changin’: In the past a band might have popped open a bottle champagne when they sold a thousand of their CDs, or performed their 100th show, but now celebrations are different. To celebrate the acquiring of 10,000 Facebook “Likes”, alluringly mysterious artist Sun Glitters has released a brand new track. “Alone” is a strangely and subtly engrossing track that, once finished, entices you to play it again, so you might perhaps be able to comprehend what you just went through. Brain Batz of Danish outfit Sleep Party People also drops by to give the track some instrumentation. Download or stream below:
Azealia Banks may be catching more negative press than hype lately thanks to her abrasive attitude towards her elders (seriously Ms. Banks, Lil Kim’s fair game, but ya best leave T.I. alone), but that hasn’t stopped her from coming with the tunes. She’s announced both an EP, titled 1991, and a mixtape to release before her debut, Broke with Expensive Taste, and this track, “Jumanji” is from the tape. Some fun production, if nothing else.
