DMX practically makes Gucci Mane look responsible and well-disciplined. Once upon a time, he was undisputed as one of hip hop’s leading voices, but the shift of focus away from gangsta rap and, moreover, DMX’s legal issues took a toll on his career. It’s hard to count the number of comebacks he’s begun, only to be cut short by yet another arrest.
This year, however, X seems truly ready to return to the rap world, performing at the BET Awards late last year, and so on. His new LP, Undisputed, should drop sometime this year, currently slated for June 26th, but don’t be surprised if it’s pushed back to allow for greater hype build up.
In the meantime, DMX is reaching out to his fans directly with a free EP, released just now. The FreEP features 11 tracks, 5 of them interludes (one from Lil Wayne). Hey, it’s free music. Head over to LiveMixtapes for the download, or listen below.
Believe me, we’re both as equally confused and excited as you are…
The eclectic DJ collective have broken their silence today with a new mixtape. The tape entitled Sleepy Bedtime Mix For Young Ones by Henry Chinaski (that’s the name of author Charles Bukowski’s protagonists) is up streaming and available for download at the Pinch & Friends site.
The mix is more subdued than regular Avalanches material (hence the lullaby theme) and features music from Joanna Newsom, Beach Boys, Free Design, Bobby Darin, and others. We love the intro featuring a clip from Michel Gondry’s film The Science of Sleep, as well.

For those wondering why Casey Veggies has been essentially in the background lately, here’s your answer. He’s clearly put a good amount of time into his latest Customized Greatly entry, including a scorching collab with Tyler, the Creator, Domo Genesis, and Earl Sweatshirt. Listen and download below.

Another day, another Lil B mixtape. The Basedprint 2 is clearly an ode to Mr. Carter’s The Blueprint 2 and is 20 tracks deep. Check out opener “NYU” below.

After a week of heavy hype, DJ Skee released Game’s new mixtape online last night. As suggested, it’s a pretty serious affair for a free release, boasting features from Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Busta Rhymes, Lupe Fiasco, Drake, and many more. Game isn’t slacking on the production side, either, with sounds from The Neptunes, Just Blaze, Cool & Dre, with Game even going over Tyler, the Creator’s “Yonkers”. Disappointingly missing are the hinted at Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar guest spots, perhaps those tracks are being saved for any of the three artist’s next proper album. Listen to the entire tape below, or head over to livemixtapes for the download.

Odd Future and co. have just released a new untitled Hodgy Beats EP featuring production from The Alchemist, Flying Lotus, Juicy J, and Thelonious Martin. Download it here and check out the tracklist below.

Fresh on the heels of John Talabot’s FACT mix from last week, number 316 is now yours to listen to, courtesy of Los Angeles artist Julia Holter (and, of course, FACT Magazine). It’s a curious affair, as Holter presents the listener with a half-hour mix that is primarily field recordings, with a few other composers’ work stuck in between. All of this comes ahead of Holter’s new album, Ekstasis, being released March 8th courtesy of RVNG Intl. Have a listen to the FACT mix below.

As the praise of John Talabot’s debut album fIN starts building momentum, he’s put together a 72-minute long, 20-track mix for FACT Magazine. Rather than filling the mix with extra material of his own creation, the mix is more a collection of tracks that Talabot obviously has a fondness for and that may/may not have inspired his own music. That said, be sure to listen out for his mix of Shakarchi & Stranéus’ “It’s my love” in the middle. Check out the tracklisting and download the mix below:
