Before I read your review, I had listened to the album once and branded it as an immediate classic. After your review, I gave it a few more listens through and I have to say, my opinion hasn't changed. What I love so much about this album, aside from the band's willingness to let their music breathe and not stuff it into a more "friendly" time slot (something I also loved about F*cked Up's "Hidden World"), is the way TA translate the frustration in their lyrics into the music surrounding them. I can't wait to see them play these songs live.
For the record, I heard the album on a promotional copy as well.

Can I cite the 'this review is my opinion' clause? I was pretty explicit in there about my problems with this record and they still stand. I enjoyed The Airing of Grievances and was looking forward to this one. I gave it a whole bunch of listens (from a legitimate promotional copy) and my thoughts are reproduced above. Titus may indeed be better than me, but my opinion's still going to stand.

And @ David Tremmel - believe me, if this was Animal Collective cast-offs, I wouldn't have been so gentle.

This is a silly accusation fueled by the fact that you disagree with the review. XL was kind enough to send us a digital promo.

Let me get this straight: You wrote a review on a downloaded, leaked version of the album, which you did not pay for? I doubt that your posting of this review and the date in which the album was illegally leaked to the internet is coincidental. Of course, if this was all legal, you must have very, very good friends at XL.

Nah you're wrong - seriously. This album is something special. Please don't knock down the one indie band trying to do something totally different right now. While every other band in america is doing making music that sounds like animal collective cast offs, these guys have made a 65 minute concept album about the american civil war referencing billy bragg. The reason i'm behind this whole record is just that noone else has tried to make something this.. well.. magnificant in years. I think this may seriously become an all time classic.
